MAINTENANCE OF OUR HEALTH IS IN OUR INTEREST AND FINALLY ALSO OUR PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. WITH SCIENTIFIC AND MEDICAL INSIGHT INCREASING THROUGH RESEARCH COUPLED TO TECHNOLOGY THIS TASK IS NOW MADE SOMEWHAT EASIER.
Since the world has been “digitized” there have been many new and often disruptive developments in the way we live and work. In fact, in many areas of modern life, the digital revolution is forcing all of us to re-consider and upgrade continuously. There have also been many developments in medical technology which when digitally enabled cause enormous breakthroughs. Just these two facts alone require new paradigms also in the medical field: different, innovative and critical systems thinking in how to diagnose and treat ailments. Especially in a total “human body, mind and soul” context.
Consulting “Dr Google”, as I call researching some conditions on the internet before going to the medical practitioner, has its downsides in some cases but for most of our occasional ailments the advice you can get on some serious medical sites, is pretty good. I am not advocating skipping a proper medical diagnosis here, but the collected knowledge of Dr Google is probably more comprehensive and up to date than most individual medical practitioners can claim. At least you can ask your medical practitioner some informed questions when you consult him or her as they are meant to be experts!
The other factor with Dr Google is its support with AI, Artificial Intelligence – which, like it or not, will affect all professions and our lives as it scans, accumulates and structures an enormous amount of data, widely dispersed knowledge and other resources. Hence, the availability of getting sound advice also increases exponentially.
The problem still is interpretation and discernment with all that Google or AI can produce. That’s why you might still speak to a medical specialist but you now do so with some basic understanding yourself. That should not be seen as a threat, but as a wonderful opportunity for open discourse between the patient and the Medical Practitioner.
AI is a collective pool of human knowledge (specifically medical, in this case) which is served up in a neat, structured and accessible way on the internet. That’s an advantage to a discerning and somewhat knowledgeable person.
Then there is the fact of a busy and fast-paced life which most of us lead which asks for solutions which can be applied safely, with no side-effects and in the comfort of our homes, if possible. There are already many solutions like this and a greater number of people avail themselves of some of these treatments and methods. Beware however, there is a lot of fraudulent stuff also out there!
Medical Research, Technology and the Internet are three factors which will change the paradigm also of how we ordinary non-medically trained people will look at ailments and the means of restoring good health, performance and quality of life. Our expectations, perspectives and interactions with professionals (all professionals!) might change profoundly in the near future when we take charge of our own well-being.
Think about it. Its not so much about if you agree with me or what you might believe, but it’s the Truth that matters.
So try to find out more facts about your condition from reliable sources – besides Dr Google, artificial intelligence or an informed digital medical expert etc, before going to your house doctor.
