WHEN SOMETHING NEW APPEARS WHICH IS CONTRARY TO THE PREVAILING PARADIGM THERE WILL ALWAYS BE OPPOSITION, SOME NAYSAYERS AND OUTRIGHT ANIMOSITY. THAT IS TO BE EXPECTED. BUT IT DOES NOT CHANGE THE TRUTH.
After two decades in the BEMER business as a well-qualified technical person with a strongly developed scientific background I have had my share of skeptical, sometimes aggressive and sometimes simply rude and ignorant opponents to the BEMER treatment. Usually I found, the stronger the opposition, the more it was based on bias, opinion and prevailing paradigm, ie belief system, than the facts.
One can, in a rational and reasonable discussion, discuss the facts with a skeptic and possibly convert the person to gain a new insight. An aggressive person can also be convinced of looking at the facts differently when they calmed down and let them draw their own conclusion once they have the FACTS. Even if the understanding and eventual acceptance may take a while.
However, blatant hostility in a framework of ignorance is much more difficult to tackle. How do you argue with ignorance embedded in arrogance?
We had the case a few years ago of a vascular surgeon and a Professor of Physics who
banded together to attack the BEMER System pronouncing it a fake; indeed the Prof called it a swindle and a fraud. Those are strong words and when I took the trouble to counter each of their erroneous arguments in writing systematically, logically, factually and invited both to discuss this matter together with me I got no response. As reasonable, scientific minded people I expected a reasonable answer to discuss our different viewpoints. Unfortunately I didn’t get an answer ever, even when following it up with both of them a few months later. Today, their twisted and erroneous viewpoints are still on the web devoid of real facts.
I won’t lose sleep over it, but we know that when there is a breakthrough of some sort, or a new critical insight, the critics and naysayers are usually not far behind. Paradigm shifts are difficult to implement. This is a well-known major obstacle to progress even in science which, by the way, is called the Thomas Kuhn effect. (I even once wrote and delivered an academic paper concerning this paradigm shift effect at a Design of Medical Devices Conference in Minnesota, Paper DMD 2010-3869.)
The extreme case skeptic stands in direct contrast to the over 1 million BEMER applications per day worldwide and with a more than 80% success rate in the eyes of the users. “Success” here means the user is better off in terms of their health, their medical condition, their physical and/or mental performance and their quality of life.
Come-on Skeptics! “Look at the facts” in the light of a different paradigm and come to a rational conclusion. There is only one truth after all, whatever your paradigm or perspective.
